It's hard to believe that we are already into our 4th Season. The journey has been incredible. Starting with a team of 25 students, we grew last year to a student roster of 72. We are preparing for more growth as our team settles into it's respective high schools within the Rochester Community School District.
What's New in Season 4
The New Team Mascot is (Insert Drumroll) ...... the GRYPHON.
Is there a more fitting mascot to represent our composite team? Like us, the Gryphon is a hybrid creature. With the head, wings and talons of an Eagle (Rochester Falcons and Out of District), the body and hind end of a lion (Stoney Creek Cougars), holding a celtic ball (Adams Highlanders), it couldn’t be more perfect. The statue pictured to the right represents the official mascot of our team and will show up at various team events. One of our own students has been commissioned to develop our new artwork. Watch for the new mascot on team spiritwear this season.
Students were also asked to choose a battle cry: AAA-EEE-AAH! Practice it so we can chant it in the woods together.
The Bike Library is growing. As part of our Diversity/Inclusivity initiative, we are getting more kids on bikes. Please consider donating to our Library Fundraiser, March 13-March 20th. More info available soon.
Wings Team - Our team is developing an Elite DEVO team aka "Wings Team" to offer those Varsity Racers who are taking high school mountain bike training and racing to the highest level. Those student athletes are provided the opportunity for coaching and mentorship both on and off the bike. The goal is to prepare those elite students to pursue opportunities at the collegiate level if they choose. The Wings Team roster is set for 2022 and athletes have already been training hard during the off season.
More Women On Bikes - This season we are spearheading an effort to get more women on bikes. Team Moms will ride together on Monday club nights in a fun, relaxed and social manner. Biking is a family sport and it is our hope to encourage more families to ride together. Moms must be registered with MiSCA. More information is coming soon.
New Ride Groups - We are expanding our available riding groups this year and have decided to adopt a Karate Belt color system.
Black - Our fastest, most skilled riders
Red - Skilled, near the fastest
Blue - Experienced riders
Green - Some experience
Yellow - Relatively new to mountain biking
White - First time mountain bikers
