The fall mountain bike race season is underway and for the first time in its 5-year history, the Rochester Mountain Bike Team is the series points leader in the high school composite category after winning the first race of the season! Come out to Addison Oaks County Park this Sunday, September 10th to cheer on almost FORTY RMBT riders and see what mountain bike racing is all about. Varsity racing starts at 8:45 am, Junior Varsity at 10:15 am, and Novice at 12:45 pm. Your Food Dude food truck will be there selling tacos and hot dogs.
Our first race of the season was also the furthest away, taking us to the sandy soils and pine forests of west Michigan on the grounds of the historic Owasippe Scout Reservation. We had a beautiful day for racing and the trail was dry and fast, but also full of treacherous sand pits! RMBT had its best showing to date, earning 415 point to put us in first place in the composite high school standings!
Stoney Creek sophomore Katja Opfer led the team points with a first place finish in Varsity Female. Other podium finishers included:
Trevor Abramczyk (Stoney Creek) - 5th, JV 9-10 Male
Mael Fleury (Rochester) - 5th, JV 11-12 Male
Ben Hawes (Seaholm) - 2nd, JV 9-10 Male
Sofia Longo (Oakland Christian) - 5th, JV Female
Diego Luna (Rochester) - 3rd, JV 11-12 Male
Isaac Shirley (Stoney Creek) - 4th, JV 11-12 Male
Abby Weaver (Adams) - 2nd, JV Female
Samuel Dagg's (Eisenhower) 8th place finish in Varsity Male also contributed to the team win. A total of 28 RMBT riders placed in their categories. Link to full race results:

The Rochester Mountain Bike Team is in its 5th season and has grown from 25 students in its first year to 80 students this year,
including 55 students from Adams, Rochester, and Stoney Creek high schools. The other 25 members of the club and race team come from 15 different metro Detroit-area high schools that do not have their own scholastic mountain biking teams, making RMBT a truly unique multi-school composite team. Just over half of the team plans to compete in the Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association (MiSCA) championship race series this fall. Check out the Racing tab for the race schedule and come support our team at one of our local races, Addison Oaks County Park on 9/10/23 and Stoney Creek Metropark on 10/15/23.
