2026 RMBT Racer Programs

Cyclists race intensely in a competitive mountain biking event.

Race Team Parent / Student Meeting

Please join us on June 24 at Bloomer Park at 6:00 pm for our race team kick-off meeting.  We will discuss race team and varsity program requirements, volunteer opportunities, and other information for both students and parents.

Club Racing

Club racing is for middle school students and any high school student who wants to race without meeting any particular practice, race, or other attendance requirements.  You must enter at least one MiSCA race to be on the race team and to attend Wednesday race team practice after July 15.

Varsity Racing

Varsity Racing is for high school students that want to earn a school club letter* for their jacket.  Students seeking a club letter MUST treat the race season as they would a varsity sport within their school.

Students racing in our Varsity Program will be rewarded for effort. We realize that it takes years to build fitness and skill levels on the bike.  Students racing in either the MiSCA Junior Varsity or Varsity classes are eligible for a club Varsity letter. Students registering to race in JV will be invited to move up to Varsity by coaches based on race performance.

Parents and students will meet at our Race Team Meeting June 24 and discuss the requirements outlined below and adjustments can be agreed upon and made accordingly. WE WELCOME AND VALUE STUDENT INPUT!!!

Requirements:

  • Sign an "Intent to Join Varsity Racing Program" (blue form)
  • [NEW FOR 2026] Read "What is a Triple Impact Competitor" (link below)
  • [NEW FOR 2026] Take the "Triple Impact Competitor Self Assessment" (yellow form)
  • [NEW FOR 2026] After taking the "Triple Impact Competitor Self Assessment", set three goals: (1) a goal to strengthen yourself; (2) a goal to strengthen your teammates and/or team; and (3) a goal to strengthen the sport of mountain biking (yellow form).  Keep a copy of these goals for yourself and put them someplace you will see them every day.
  • Submit your Varsity Intent (blue form), self assessment (yellow form), and goals (yellow form) by July 15, 2026.
  • Attend at least 75% of Monday and Wednesday practices beginning July 15 unless excused by the Team Manager (Coach Jen) for illness, injury, or academic events.  An unexcused absence may be made up with an extra ride if approved by Coach Mike H or Coach Jeff F.  You are responsible for ensuring Coach Mike or Coach Jeff tells Coach Jen that you have made up an unexcused absence.
  • Register for and participate in at least 4 of 6 MiSCA races in the junior varsity or varsity classification.  If you are injured, you are still expected to attend races with the team.  Illnesses may be excused.
  • Participate in at least one trail maintenance event. Submit an orange form documenting your participation.
  • Assist MiSCA with at least one race day setup. (These occur on the Saturday before your race.) Submit an orange form documenting your participation.
  • Participate in at least one community event arranged by RMBT or approved by the Team Manager (Coach Jen), Head Race Coach (Coach Mike H), or Coach Jeff F.  Submit an orange form documenting your participation.

* RMBT will work with out-of-district schools to attain club letter status, but the schools have final say.  If we are unable to procure letter status, you will be awarded a team patch acknowledging your accomplishments.

** A club letter in mountain biking is not eligible for a gym credit.

ALL REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 11

Elite "Wings" Racing

The elite Wings Racing program is for students who want to take their racing to the next level with personalized coaching and additional racing.  The goal of the program is to develop racers to be competitive at the MiSCA varsity level.

This program is by application only and participation is limited.  Applications open in roughly October for the following season.

Please talk to the Head Race Coach (Coach Mike H) or Coach Jeff F if you are interested in the Wings program.
